More than 400 Bell leaders from all over the world gathered at the Toyota Music Factory fully expecting the 2020 Bell Summit to include business updates, project statuses and an opening address from President and CEO Mitch Snyder. Instead, they were surprised with stories from individuals they lead, an opening address from a project specialist - not the CEO - and no graphs or PowerPoint presentations! These bright employees didn't tell leaders what to do, they dared them to do more. Dared them to move an idea forward even if brilliant, technical experts believed it wouldn't work. Dared them to give entry and analyst-level individuals the agency to challenge the status quo. Dared them to pursue a passion outside of work. By illuminating the moments behind the spreadsheets and deadlines, employees from every business level stood on an open stage in front of leaders and reminded them what happens when they empower their teams.
The "Dare to" mentality represents bold risks. Trust in your tribe. A culture shift to a new kind of leader, one that stands behind their team to lift them up and not the other way around. Because at Bell, a company with dynamic, revolutionary technology, the people that walk through our doors every day are still, and always will be, our greatest assets.
