Life threatening health conditions don’t take distance and ground traffic into consideration when they strike, and this can be particularly troublesome if they occur while located in a remote area or a heavily congested city. The eastern coastal province of China saw this as a major issue and created the China Air Emergency Hospital Alliance. The Alliance is working with 14 large provincial hospital and another 50 medical facilities, covering eight provinces.
One of the helicopters used by the Alliance is Air Xiya’s Bell 429, and it was recently put to the test. A man was suffering a heart attack two hours away from a care location, if taken by traditional ambulance. This timing was also dependent on the traffic congestion widely prevalent in the city. Time was of the essence, and the Bell 429 delivered. The Bell 429 was able to transport the patient to his life-saving surgery in a mere 30 minutes, approximately a quarter of the time it would have taken by road ambulance.
